International Mediation Day. Conference “Towards a World without Conflict”

The General Director of the Foundation for Culture and Religious Tolerance (FCRT), Dr. Musabeh Saeed Alketbi, has participated in the oficial opening of the conference ‘Towards a world without conflict’, organised by the Valencia-Mediterranean Association for UNESCO on the occasion of International Mediation Day.

The event took place at the Valencian Museum of Illustration and Modernity (MUVIM), in Valencia, on January 21st with the presence of various personalities and was divided into two parts with speeches by Marcela Velasteguí Herrera, Consul of Ecuador for the Valencian Community, Juan Francisco Mejías Gómez, Magistrate and Vice-President of GEMME Spain (European Group of Magistrates for Mediation), Michelle Guillaume Hofnung, Director of the Institute of Mediation, MGH, Paris, President of Geopelie Culture of Geopelie, Paris. President of Geopelie Culture de l’amiable, among others.

The inauguration was also attended by Rafael Monzó, president of the Valencia-Mediterranean Association for UNESCO. ‘Valencia, international city of mediation’, organiser of the event, and Nuria Martínez, Regional Minister of Justice and Public Administration, who, in her speech, defended mediation as an alternative means of conflict resolution. ‘Faced with new ways of growing and living together as a society, we must promote new ways of resolving the conflicts that arise from this coexistence, which go beyond the judicial route’.

Dr. Alketbi highlighted the important role of intellectual and social leaders, for their continuous efforts to promote peace and spread tolerance in the world. In his speech, he emphasised mediation as an effective tool to address disagreements peacefully, based on dialogue and mutual respect, which not only works to end conflicts, but also sows the seeds of tolerance and peace among individuals and communities, creating an environment conducive to coexistence and sustainable development’.

The FCRT General Director also underlined the important role of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) in promoting a culture of tolerance and peace around the world through its various initiatives, which include mediation, intercultural dialogue and education in human values, as well as the work of the FCRT Foundation, established in Madrid, in achieving the goals of peace by promoting mutual understanding between cultures and religions, highlighting the common values that unite us as humanity, regardless of our differences.

Dr. Musabeh also praised the role of the Valencia-Mediterranean Partnership for UNESCO and all the effort in organising the event and stressed that these efforts highlight the principles and practices of tolerance to promote the culture of tolerance and peace worldwide.
