Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic Receives the President of the GCTP

His Excellency Alfredo Pacheco, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic, received His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), and his accompanying delegation at the Chamber of Deputies’ headquarters in the capital, Santo Domingo.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and joint action between the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic, as well as developing parliamentary initiatives aimed at consolidating the values of tolerance, dialogue and peace and supporting closer ties between peoples.

Pacheco welcomed Al-Jarwan and the delegation from the GCTP, praising the Council’s efforts to spread a culture of tolerance and peace around the world, particularly in South American countries and the Caribbean region, and commending the initiatives and programmes it implements to promote dialogue, coexistence and international cooperation.

The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic also welcomed the move towards signing a cooperation and joint action agreement between the Chamber and the Global Council and its International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP), emphasising the importance of strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and uniting efforts to counter hate speech and extremism, and to support security, stability and peace.

For his part, Al-Jarwan expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Excellency Alfredo Pacheco for the warm reception and the warm welcome extended to the Council, emphasising the GCTP commitment to expanding its partnerships with parliamentary institutions in the Dominican Republic and other countries in the region, and to launching joint initiatives that promote the values of tolerance, peace and sustainable development.

Both sides emphasised the importance of continuing coordination in the coming period and working to finalise the procedures for the cooperation agreement, thereby strengthening the institutional partnership and facilitating the exchange of expertise and the organisation of joint programmes and events.
