H.E. Ahmed bin Muhammad Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) and H.E. Ambassador Moushira Khattab, President of the Egyptian National Council for Human Rights, signed a memorandum of understanding and joint action with the aim of strengthening relations between the two institutions and establishing a framework of cooperation to spread the culture of tolerance and peace, supporting human rights efforts in the region and the world.

That same year was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly as the Year for Tolerance and, taking advantage of the 125th anniversary of Gandhi’s birth, December 16 was declared the International Day for Tolerance.
